Application Process

Thank you for your interest in the Drake University School of Education’s ESL endorsement.

We are excited to collaborate with the Heartland Area Education Agency to provide you with this unique educational experience.

Online Application Tips

  • The “Intended Program” is “Endorsement Only” (unless you are pursuing this endorsement as part of a degree program)
  • List “ESL” as the specific endorsement area
  • The “term” for this partnership is Fall 2019.
  • When prompted to indicate whether you wish to join an on-campus or off-campus program, select “on campus” and list AEA ESL Partnership 8 or the appropriate district-specific program when prompted for detailed information.

NOTE: if you are already enrolled in a Drake graduate program, you do not need to reapply. Simply inform shelley.fairbairn@drake.edu that you would like to participate in this opportunity.

Résumé or Curriculum Vitae

A current professional résumé or curriculum vitae is required. Please include information regarding current and/or past employment history as well as professional development and internships completed.

Letter of Intent

The letter of intent should address your personal and professional goals as an educator and how the ESL program will enhance your career within the field of education. Approximately one page is sufficient.

*Be sure to clarify that you want to participate in the AEA scholarship program.

School Administrator Recommendation

In order to be considered for partnership participation, ask one of your school administrators to complete this ESL School Administrator Recommendation Form and mail it to:

Official Transcripts

Official transcripts from the college or university that granted your undergraduate degree.  

Official transcripts are prepared and sent by the institution in question and received by Drake University in a sealed envelope or a secured .pdf file.  Transcripts mailed directly to the student, must remain in the sealed envelope to be considered.

Admission Decision

Drake University will make an admissions determination after all materials have been submitted.  You will receive a letter regarding your admissions status.  Decisions regarding scholarship participation will follow the admission decision and are based on receipt of the School Administrator Recommendation letter and the Student Information and Intent to Register form.  You will be notified only if you are not accepted to receive scholarship funds.

Financial aid is only available to individuals who are enrolled in full degree programs.  Questions concerning the admission process should be directed to:
