Math Concentration

Program Details

The Drake University School of Education offers an area of specialization in mathematics as part of the Master of Science in Education in Teacher Effectiveness and Professional Development (TEPD).

The 32-credit-hour TEPD program includes 17 required core education courses and 15 credits of mathematics focused on K-8 Common Core content and the Mathematical Practices.  This degree is ideal for educators with a desire to lead K-12 school mathematics initiatives, become instructional coaches, or learn new strategies to assist all students' learning of mathematics.

Courses in the mathematics area of specialization include:

  • Algebra and Geometry for Elementary and Middle School
  • Measurement and Statistics for Elementary and Middle School
  • Mathematical Practices
  • Mathematics and Technology
  • Topics in Mathematics Education

Students may also pursue an elementary mathematics endorsement with an additional nine credit hours.  These courses are available at Drake and undergraduate coursework in mathematics may count toward credits.
