Debra S. Bishop, Ph.D.

Professor of Practice in Management and International Business

Dr. Debra Bishop received a doctorate in Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering with a concentration in operations research from Iowa State University in 1996. She has been at Drake University since 1996. She is a Professor of Practice in Management and International Business teaching primarily operations management. Dr. Bishop has taught courses in entrepreneurship, process improvement, procurement and operations to business professionals. She has been the recipient of the Brooks Faculty Excellence Award as well as the David B. Lawrence Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award. Additionally, Dr. Bishop has led a May-term course, taking students to Uganda to study sustainable development issues since 2006. The Uganda team has worked to build the Kikandwa Health Center in rural Uganda, furnish a computer lab at City Secondary School and provide a catchment system, kitchen and Braille materials for Sure Prospects Primary School. She has been the Academic Director for the Mandela Washington Fellowship‘s Drake Institute each summer since 2017. She is the faculty fellow for Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
