Assistant Professor of Practice in Business Communication
Lynn B. McCool is an assistant professor of practice in business communication in the Zimpleman College of Business at Drake University where she leads the professional written communication undergraduate and graduate programs. Additionally, she serves as the publication editor of the Drake Management Review.
McCool’s research interests focus on the intersection of social media, digital rhetoric, online writing pedagogy, and business and professional communication practices. As such, her most recent publication, “Next-Gen Resumes: Using Transmedia Storytelling to Create Personal Branding on LinkedIn” (2019) investigated how the resume genre is shifting from print to online. As a result, professionals are choosing LinkedIn as a platform for multimodal composing and transmedia storytelling to create their dynamic, professional branding rather than displaying skills and education in a static, printed resume.
McCool is a frequent conference speaker and invited lecturer, and an active member of the Council of Writing Program Administrators (CWPA), the Association for Business Communication (ABC), the Association of Teachers of Technical Writing (ATTW), the Society for Technical Communication (STC), and the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). She maintains a professional communication blog at https://lbmccool.wp.drake.edu. She frequently offers professional communication consultation to students, colleagues, and other interested stakeholders.
