Study of Culture & Society

Our department's programs encourage you to understand society and culture as they are, as they are experienced, and as they could be.

We prepare students for active and responsible civic engagement through the development of critical thought. In our courses, you will gain insight about social organizations and institutions, cultural practices, political relationships, and personal identity.

We offer several majors and minors including Rhetoric, Media & Social Change, Sociology, and Anthropology/Sociology.

Our majors explore social diversity and inequality, critical interpretation of texts, self-reflective knowledge and practice, appreciation of complexity, and advocacy for social change.
