Michael Terrell earned his Bachelor of Music Education from Drake University in 2015. During undergrad, he studied cello with Dr. Ashley Sidon and participated in the Drake University orchestra, conducted by Professor Akira Mori. Following undergrad, he worked as a 6th-8th grade orchestra and band teacher in the Des Moines Public Schools. While working for DMPS, Michael worked towards his Masters of Education also at Drake, graduating in 2019. Starting in 2021, Michael began teaching elementary orchestra in the West Des Moines Community School District, where he has the pleasure of teaching 4th-6th grade small group lessons and ensembles.

Michael has maintained a studio of private cello students since 2014 and is excited to meet new students. One of his priorities is to help students set goals that are meaningful to them and develop a plan for how those goals will be met.

In his free time, Michael enjoys spending time with family and friends, especially his wife Heidi, who is an orchestra teacher in Indianola, Iowa.
