Wellmark BlueX: Technology Applied Learning Program with Drake University

Drake University and the Technology Division of Wellmark, Inc. have partnered to create BlueX: Technology Applied Learning — an exclusive opportunity designed to combine career mentoring, professional development, and real-world applied technology experience.

Students apply during the spring semester of their first year at Drake. A select cohort is chosen to begin participation in the program the following academic year.

Program Structure

Fall of Sophomore Year
Students engage in a formal mentorship with a Wellmark Technology professional while earning academic credit at Drake. This experience focuses on professional growth, career exploration, and exposure to enterprise technology environments.

Spring of Sophomore Year
Students continue their mentorship while completing a semester-long Independent Study project. Participants select from a curated list of cutting-edge technology topics provided by Wellmark, allowing them to apply their skills to real-world challenges.

Drake academic credit is awarded for both the continued mentorship and the independent study experience.

Beyond the Program

Students who successfully complete BlueX are encouraged to apply early in their senior year for Wellmark’s Technology Associate Rotational Program or other full-time employment opportunities within Wellmark’s Technology Division.
