2014 DELTA Rx Annual Report

Throughout the past year, the DELTA Rx Institute has been involved in several projects within the college and also made several additions to www.DELTARx.com, as well as reaching out to new members via social networking.  We have also promoted our articles, columns, and events through social media to enhance member engagement.

Involvement in the College

7th Annual Next Top Entrepreneur Competition: http://www.drake.edu/deltarx/articles/practicedevelopment/nexttopentrepreneurcompetition2014results/#d.en.257015

  • 9 teams, 20 competitors
  • 1st Place:  Neel Patel, Scott Morrett – “Heart Shield”, an implantable chip that can be used to monitor patients for various risk factors for cardiac arrest.
  • 2nd Place:  Holly Thurauf, Natalie Gadbois – “DiabetesSTART”, a child-friendly insulin dispensing system created to educate children with Type I Diabetes and promote adherence to medications.
  • 3rd Place:  Anna Shields and Shea O’Brien – “PortionPerfect”, an app that consumers can use to ensure they are eating proper portion sizes in a fun and competitive way.

 

DELTA Rx Entrepreneurial Leadership Summer Internship

  • 2014 students (14-15 classifications) and pharmacies (mentors):

  • 25 credit minor for non-business students
  • 6 CPHS students have declared the minor (1 HS; 5 PPHR/PHAR)

Grants

  • McKesson - $10,000 (Summer Internship) – This funding allows for the establishment of one summer entrepreneurial leadership internship at an independent pharmacy. Includes the addition of housing and partial stipend support.
  • Pharmacists Mutual - $2,700 (Summer Internship) - This two – year funding allows for the addition of housing and partial stipend support for one summer entrepreneurial leadership internship site at an independent pharmacy.
  • Target - $3,000 (Next Top Entrepreneur Competition) – This grant paid for the Next Top Entrepreneur Competition.
