Drake Programs

Join a traveling course, either in the U.S. or abroad, and find adventure! You can make progress toward your Drake degree while learning more about the world.

Short-Term Faculty-Led Travel Seminars

If you are finding it difficult to fit a semester study abroad experience into your academic plan—due to time constraints, financial obstacles, or personal reasons—Drake Travel Seminars may be an excellent option for you. Travel seminars run during J-term or summer and are typically between one to three weeks in length. Past program locations have included Belize, China, England, New Zealand, and Uganda, to name a few. Travel Seminars offer Drake credit (many with an AOI), are comprised of Drake students, and are led by Drake faculty. With your Drake community by your side, you’ll develop new relationships with fellow Drake students and professors, and create long-lasting memories that will serve you long after your time abroad.

A list of current Drake travel seminars can be found by searching on Terra Dotta for the term of interest as program offerings change every year. Drake study abroad programs are denoted by a star in front of the course name.

DU Semester Programs

If you’re interested in a semester-long study abroad program and want to further enrich your Drake experience in an international context, consider joining one of Drake’s own semester-long programs. In this model, a cohort of Drake students transport their Bulldog community to one of Drake’s select program locations. Students take specialized courses from an accompanying Drake faculty member, our on-site partner, and a local university. With additional activities and excursions exclusive to Drake students, you can continue forging meaningful connections with fellow Bulldogs while taking part in unique experiences that expand your horizon and appreciation for our interconnected world.

DU Spain: Spring

Each spring, a full-semester cohort-based program "DU Spain" is hosted in Seville, Spain. A group of ten or more students will travel with a Drake Faculty-in-Residence to Seville, where they can enroll in courses at either the University of Seville or Pablo de Olavide University, in addition to one or two courses offered by the Faculty-in-Residence. Spring 2020 DU Spain student, Sophia Arbogast, shares her experience with the program:

“The DU Spain program gave me such a unique experience by allowing me to be immersed in another culture while still feeling connected to Drake! The support and community that I got from having other students and a professor from Drake was invaluable. The Drake-specific courses not only provided extra excursions, but also led to deep insights and discussions regarding differences in culture and where they come from.”

DU England: Fall

Each fall, a full-semester cohort-based program "DU England" is hosted at Harlaxton College in Grantham, England. A group of ten or more students will travel with a Drake Faculty-in-Residence to England, where they will enroll in courses offered at Harlaxton, including from their Faculty-in-Residence.
