As a Drake University multimedia journalism major, you’ll learn how to report and tell stories that serve the public good; how to gather news and information accurately, fairly and ethically; and how to produce your stories for distribution across traditional and digital media platforms. Our bachelor of journalism curriculum continually adapts to and embraces the newest technologies available, while adhering to the foundations of principled and meaningful journalism.
Depending on your interests and aspirations, you might choose a double major or dual degree in political science, history, psychology, English, or sociology.
During your senior year, you'll collaborate with students in Magazine Media and Digital Media Production to create an award-winning website that showcases multimedia content.
What can you do with a journalism degree? You can be a reporter, editor or producer. You can work for online news media, a newspaper, radio or TV station, news magazine or documentary company. You can do communications for a start-up, nonprofit, corporation or government agency. This journalism program gives you a foundation of multimedia skills, then allows you to follow your passion into radio or television, print or online, news, sports or features. You will graduate with technology and communication skills that can take you anywhere!

Associate Professor Jill Van Wyke had an 11-year career as a news reporter, copy editor and assistant city editor. She is a member of the Online News Association, Broadcast Education Association, College Media Advisers, Iowa College Media Association, and Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.
Associate Professor Chris Snider specializes in multimedia and design. Prior to teaching, he was managing editor for digital at The Des Moines Register, where he was named top editor for digital in the Gannett company. He also worked at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and the Baltimore Sun in his 12-year news career.
