Vince Kenney is Assistant Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Low Brass at Drake University, where he directs low brass studies and conducts the Drake University Symphonic Band, Marching Band, and Bulldog Brass.
Vince is active performing as both a euphonium soloistt, conductor and a chamber musician, and has presented guest artist recitals at dozens of the finest universities and music conferences throughout the United States, including the International Tuba-Euphonium Association Conference, the United States Army Band Tuba/Euphonium Workshop, the Texas Music Educators Association All-State Conference (TMEA), and the Eastman School of Music. As a member of the North Texas Euphonium Quartet (NTEQ), Vince has helped to establish the euphonium quartet as a viable chamber medium. To date, NTEQ has helped to facilitate the creation of over 100 new works for euphonium quartet.
Vince has contributed articles to the International Tuba Euphonium Association Journal, and to the renowned Teaching Music Through Performance in Band book series. Prior to his work at Drake, Vince served as the Director of Instrumental Music at North Central Texas College in Gainesville, Texas where he founded the NCTC Wind Ensemble. He currently also serves as the Artistic Director and Conductor of Iowa’s only professional wind ensemble, The Des Moines Metro Concert Band.
Dr. Kenney has had the opportunity to perform with numerous orchestras, including The Champaign-Urbana Symphony, Orchestra Iowa, and with the Orquesta Sinfonica de Mineria, in Mexico City, Mexico. A two-time finalist in the Leonard Falcone International Euphonium Solo Competition, Vince completed his undergraduate degrees in music performance and education at the University of Illinois, and his master’s and doctoral degrees in Euphonium Performance from the University of North Texas, under the tutelage of Dr. Brian Bowman.
