Specialist in Education with Literacy Emphasis

The Specialist in Education with an emphasis in Literacy is a post-masters program that prepares students for leadership within the field of literacy education. 

This degree requires 30-credit hours, consisting of nine credit hours of core courses and 21 credit hours of advisor approved, programmatic electives.

Versatility: Students work closely with a program advisor in order to select courses that best fit their needs and goals. Several course options are available within each emphasis area.

Face-to-face Instruction: Students learn from Drake faculty members who are experienced leaders and experts in their fields.

Technology Enhanced: Courses feature hybrid learning, with web-based activities and discussions supplementing face-to-face weekend classes. Some courses may be offered fully online.

Convenient scheduling: Classes are designed to meet the needs of working adults. They are during the evening or on weekends.

Application Details

  • Applications are reviewed on an on-going basis; therefore, it is requested that all materials be submitted approximately 8 weeks prior to the beginning of the intended start-term.
  • Upon the receipt of transcripts, an advisor will complete a transcript evaluation in order to determine any credit or course substitutions/transfers.
