SJMC students welcomed to fall 2019 semester!
Information session about Aetna hiring program
The Aetna health care company will hold an information session about its AGILE Hire Program for students. Aetna’s AGILE Hire helps students gain confidence, sharpen skills and make a difference. AGILE students develop the opportunity for full-time employment with Aetna after graduation. AGILE rotations typically lasts eight to 12 weeks and have variable hours per week according to the student’s school schedule. Participants will be assigned to a business area and work on tasks they would experience as full-time employees. AGILE students from Drake would be based at Aetna’s Urbandale office.
Hear from Molly Fuelberth, a Drake alumna, on her experience with the AGILE program on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 5-6 p.m. in Aliber Room 101. Pizza and soda will be provided.
Learn what the Iowa Caucuses are all about
The Iowa Caucus Project students are hosting a “Beginner’s Guide to Iowa Politics” on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 5-6 p.m., in CR 310 in Upper Olmsted. This event is geared towards first-years, transfer students and anyone who feels a bit lost in the chaos of everything that is caucus season.
Keep up with your Spanish
Drop-in Spanish conversation hours will be held this fall to help students polish their language skills. The sessions are Monday, 3:30-4:30 p.m.; Wednesday, 9:30-10:30 a.m.; Thursday, 3:30-4:30 p.m., and Friday 12:15-1:15 p.m., all in Mer. 204. The sessions are free and open to speakers of every level. They are sponsored by the Department of World Languages and Cultures.
Share your experiences in recent internships, jobs
The SJMC is planning a campaign to highlight your cool internships and jobs. Please send a brief description of your experience, including name of employer, title and dates of employment, to email@example.com. We’d also love to feature a photo of you on-site (or a headshot, if on-site photos aren’t available). The campaign will begin in just a few weeks, and it will continue throughout the year. We welcome content from students and alumni.

Meredith Magazine Center hosts internship panel
The E.T. Meredith Center for Magazine Studies will host a panel on Monday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. in Mer. 104. All SJMC students are welcome. The panelists will include SJMC students from a variety of majors discussing their internships — how they got them, what they experienced and what they learned. Snacks will be provided.
Meredith Hall building hours
Meredith Hall is unlocked during the following hours when classes are in session:
Sunday-Sunday: 7:30 a.m.-9 p.m.
Monday-Friday: 7 a.m.-9:30 p.m.
Students with SJMC majors can swipe into the building with a Drake ID even when the building is locked from 7 a.m.-2 a.m., Sunday-Thursday. Students who are already in the building when it is automatically locked are allowed to stay in the building. Students who need 24/7 access to swipe into the building should talk to their faculty member or adviser about how to obtain all-hours access.
