SJMC Monday Memo – March 4, 2024

Monday, March 4th, 2024

With almost 20 students working in all parts of the legislative process – clerks, interns, advocates – at the state Capitol this legislative session, students have an opportunity to experience every aspect of the Iowa State Legislature. This week, several enjoyed the first late night of debate and paused to take a picture between rules suspension votes and points of order. These students are all in JMC110, The State Capitol Experience, which provides statehouse interns a chance to get the most out of their time at the Capitol.

From left to right – Michael Mitchell, Will Blevins, Grace Pender, Campbell Stepan, and Tess Dorman.

Support SJMC innovation

Here’s your chance to donate to an ongoing fund that will support technology and initiatives to keep the Drake SJMC at the forefront of media innovation across all majors.

Longtime SJMC professor and alumna Sandy Henry and retired professor Todd Evans have devoted their lives to nurturing generations of multimedia professionals. Their family — which includes Todd’s wife, Cathy, who is Sandy’s sister and also a Drake alumna — is generously donating seed money to create the new SJMC Emerging Media Fund.

This gift honors the legacy of Cathy’s and Sandy’s beloved mother, Anne McCrimmon, and her support of her daughters, Drake and the power of lifelong learning.
