Education Abroad

Exploring the world opens your mind to new ideas and alternative ways of seeing things. Whether studying in Madrid, interning in Dubai, teaching English in Chile, or shadowing a health professional in India, the Drake International office is here to make sure you are supported before, during, and after your international experience.

Getting Started

Starting Spring 2020, students who participate in an Affiliate program (such as AIFS, API, ASE, CIEE, IES, IFSA, ISA, SACI, SFS, SIT, SHC, and TEAN) will be required to pay an education abroad fee when they "Commit" to the program in Terra Dotta (this occurs after applying, and after being "Accepted" to the education abroad program). For short-term Affiliate programs, such as J-term and Summer, students will be billed a $300 education abroad fee when they commit. For academic year, quarter, and semester Affiliate programs, students will be billed a $500 education abroad fee when they commit. Drake University programs and Exchange programs will not be impacted by the education abroad fee.

If you are interested in studying, interning, volunteering, or teaching abroad, the first step is to view Education Abroad 101, which is a 5-minute online presentation followed by a 5 to 10-minute quiz. You can access the Education Abroad 101 video and quiz by logging into Drake's Terra Dotta system with your Drake ID number and MyDrake password.

After viewing Education Abroad 101 you can find the right program for you by utilitizing our program search.

Students joining a Drake Administered (faculty-led) program should speak with the  program's faculty leader or the Drake International office to learn more about the program.

Students interested in a semester, summer, or J-term Exchange and Affiliate program are required to make an appointment with our office to go over the application process. All students applying to an exchange or affiliate program must start an application in Drake's Terra Dotta Education Abroad system by the application deadline, and be approved to study abroad by Drake University, before applying to the exchange or affiliate partner program.
