The School of Education at Drake University offers three doctoral degrees designed to meet your professional goals. The two EdD degrees are intended for those whose interest is in application of theory & research to affect educational practice. The PhD degree is intended for those whose interest is in becoming a research scholar in their professional field.
Designed for the experienced or practicing professional, the Doctor of Education in Leadership program offers opportunities for leaders in education, government, business, healthcare, legal, human services, and other fields.
Designed for the experienced K-12 administrator who desires both a doctoral degree in education and licensure for superintendency. After the first two years of coursework and 400 hours of field based experiences, student can apply for a state of Iowa superintendent license. Students then go on to complete requirements for the EdD degree.
Designed for the professional who desires a research intensive experience with a professional goal of working in a field that requires strong research skills. An apprenticeship in the third year of the program, provides students with the opportunity to work closely with their faculty mentor and emphasize development of research expertise in a specific area (e.g., science education, higher education, education administration).
