The School of Education at Drake University offers both EdD and PhD options designed to meet your professional goals. Offering students different tracks ensures that the degree you pursue accomplishes your career objectives.
Doctor of Education (EdD) – Leadership
The EdD degree is intended for those whose interest is in application of theory and research to affect their professional practice.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) – Education
The PhD degree is intended for those whose interest is in becoming a research scholar in their professional field.
Doctor of Education with Principal or Superintendent Licensure
Designed for those in K-12 who desire both a doctoral degree and principal or superintendent licensure. With both EdD and PhD options, each degree offers a general curriculum designed specifically to meet the requirements for principal or superintendent licensure. Upon completion of the required licensure coursework and requirements, students can apply for the State of Iowa licensure while continuing towards completion of their doctoral degree.
