Writing, Tutoring, and Speech Assistance

The Writing Workshop's serve students who need assistance with individual writing assignments or research assignments. The emphasis of the one-on-one tutoring sessions is not to “fix” writing but to devise actions that students can take to improve their writing and to provide help with writing problems or questions. They will help you craft a paper that readers will understand and remember. This is a free service for all Drake University students. To set up an appointment, sign up online

Along with writing resources, tutoring, and speech services are also available.

Outlets for Student Research

If you have written a good paper in an IS course, consider working towards publication by submitting to a Drake journal:

(1) Drake Management Review.  This online journal publishes articles focusing on business issues by students and faculty, and appears once or twice yearly.  Submissions are reviewed by faculty and sometimes outside experts.  Submissions may be made at any time.  For more information, contact the editor, Professor Troy Strader.

(2) Drake Undergraduate Social Science Journal.  This online journal showcases outstanding research by Drake students in the social sciences, and appears once yearly.  Submissions are reviewed by a board of student editors.  A call for papers is issued in November, with online publication in late March.  For more information, contact the faculty managing editors, Professor Heath Henderson or Professor William Boal.

(3) Drake University Conference on Undergraduate Research in the Sciences (DUCURS).  This annual conference includes poster sessions showcasing outstanding research by students in the sciences. Abstracts must be submitted in late February, with the conference itself held in April.
