Midwest Clinical Legal Education Conference

Drake University Law School
October 28-30, 2022

Drake University Law School is pleased to announce the in-person return of the Midwest Clinical Conference planned for October 28-30, 2022 at the Neal and Bea Smith Law Center in Des Moines, Iowa. This year’s theme is Honoring the Past, Evaluating the Present, Shaping the Future, which will allow attendees to celebrate the development and progress of clinical education in the law school curriculum while preparing for the next generation of experiential education.

The past several years have presented unprecedented challenges to us as lawyers, as educators, and as members of our communities. Despite the changing environment we are living and working in, it is worth remembering that experiential educators are no strangers to challenge. The role of experiential education has expanded despite recessions, enrollment challenges, threats to civil and human rights, and institutional change. This conference will reflect on past practices that may help us navigate a new future. In addition, it will provide us with an opportunity to strategically consider the role of experiential education in meeting the new ABA standards focused on professional identity and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

* This conference is supported in part by CLEA, the Clinical Legal Education Association, cleaweb.org.
