The Refugee Clinic at Drake University Law School provides free immigration legal services to noncitizens seeking immigration benefits or facing removal proceedings in the United States. Student attorneys, under the supervision of the Refugee Clinic faculty, represent clients in immigration matters before the U.S. immigration agencies and courts. Clients receive free legal services but are responsible for all out-of-pocket fees and other expenses associated with the representation.

Legal Services and Practice Areas

Immigration Applications

Drake Refugee Clinic can assist with a wide variety of immigration applications, including:

• Family-based immigration (green cards)
• Asylum and withholding of removal (Form I-589)
• Special immigration laws relating to domestic violence and victims of crime (VAWA and U visa)
• Waivers of inadmissibility (Forms I-601A, I-601, I-212)
• Citizenship and naturalization (Form N-400)
• Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS)
• Work Permit initial applications and renewals (Form I-765)
• Temporary Protected Status (TPS) (Form I-821)

Immigration Court

Drake Refugee Clinic can assist with cases before the Omaha Immigration Court, including:                                           

• Deportation/removal defense
• Bond
• Appeals (Board of Immigration Appeals)
• Motions to reopen and motions to reconsider
• Cancellation of removal
• Asylum and withholding of removal
• Waivers
