International Students

Students from around the world choose Drake Law School to receive a world-class education and prepare to practice law in a global environment.

Drake Law School is committed to providing a culturally diverse learning environment. Each year, Drake welcomes international students from China to France to take advantage of the Law School's hands-on approach to legal education, prime location in the state's capital, and experienced faculty who are experts in their fields.

Partnerships

Drake University has developed partnerships with 14 universities in 12 countries across the globe to support and encourage student exchange. Learn more about Drake's partner institutions.

In addition, Drake Law School entered into an academic agreement with the Southwest University of Political Science and Law (SWUPL) in Chongqing, China. Beginning in fall 2017, qualified SWUPL students will have the opportunity to complete a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree at Drake Law School with the assistance of scholarships.

Academic Programs

Drake Law School offers various degree programs, including a Master of Laws (LLM) degree, a Master of Jurisprudence (MJ) degree, and a Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

In addition to the regular curriculum, the Law School offers two special courses, Foundations of Law and The Regulatory Process, that are specifically designed to introduce international students to American law.

International Law Society

The International Law Society is a student organization at Drake Law School that works to raise awareness of international legal issues. The organization sponsors guest speakers, organizes philanthropic events, supplies information about careers in international law, and more.

International Law Week

Each fall, Drake Law School hosts International Law Week to celebrate diversity within the Law School and Des Moines community and to raise awareness about international issues. Past events include an international food fair, free coffee from around the world, and lectures on international law topics such as "Constitutionalism in Other Countries."

Drake International Center

Students at Drake Law School have full access to Drake's International Center, which is dedicated to serving the needs of international students. The office coordinates visa paperwork and runs an orientation providing international students an opportunity to connect outside of the Law School.
