Professional librarians provide research guidance by recommending and explaining how to use sources and suggesting strategies.

Note: Reference librarians cannot specify which laws apply to a situation, interpret the law, give legal advice, or conduct legal research for you.

Reference Hours

Professional reference librarians are available to provide research guidance during the library's reference hours: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m.

Reference hours may vary for holidays and other reasons. Check the Law Library hours or call 515-271-3189.

Contact Options

In Person:
During all library hours, staff members are available at the Information Desk to answer questions about the library and help locate library materials. 

During reference hours, you can also request a librarian's assistance by asking at the Information Desk.

Via Phone:
Call 515-271-3189 during reference hours and ask to speak to a reference librarian.

Email Option For Drake Faculty, Staff, and Students:

Current Drake faculty, staff, and students may request reference assistance via email. Please use your Drake email account to email us a request for reference assistance. (PC/Mac/Android email link and iPhone/iPad email link.) Requests may be sent at any time and librarians will respond during reference hours.

Research Guides

Librarians have prepared a number of research guides to assist you with various topics, ranging from identifying resources in an area of the law to study aids for exams to finding articles using a known citation.
