Commencement Ceremonies

Saturday, May 16, 2020
7 p.m.
Knapp Center

Graduates line up alphabetically in the Law School at 6 p.m. The bagpipe procession from Opperman Hall to the Knapp Center begins at 6:45 p.m. The ceremony typically lasts less than 90 minutes and is followed by a reception at the Courtside Club in Shivers Practice Facility. All are invited to attend the reception. 

The Knapp Center opens for guests at 6 p.m. No tickets are needed, and there is no limit to the number of guests that may attend for a graduate.

University Bookstore staff will be on site to accept return of cap and gown rentals immediately following the ceremony.

John Gilbertson, a third-year student at Drake University Law School, was recognized onstage during GRAMMY Week 2020 at the 22nd Annual Entertainment Law Initiative Event and Scholarship Presentation, hosted by the Recording Academy. His paper, titled Play It Again Sam: The Free-Market Case for Government Intervention in the Music Streaming Sector, received runner-up in the Entertainment Law Initiative Writing Competition, winning him a trip to Los Angeles and a $2,500 scholarship.
