Model UN

In Model UN, participants have an opportunity to learn about major global issues while gaining practical experience of the challenges faced when diverse countries come together to negotiate agreement laws and policies on these global issues.

Drake students regularly have an opportunity to participate in Drake’s delegation to the American Model United Nations International in Chicago or the National Model United Nations in New York, coordinated by the Drake Simulation League (DSL).

2019 National Model United Nations (NMUN)

Eight Drake students traveled to New York, New York in March 2019 to work with over 5,000 other students from across the nation. Delegates passed resolutions solving a variety of global problems including the dangers posed by non-state actors, chemical weapons, climate change, human trafficking, and the protection of human rights during humanitarian emergencies.

Delegates had the opportunity to listen to speakers inside the United Nations and visit the Consulate General of Iceland. Outside of the event, delegates visited important institutions such as the 9/11 Memorial and various neighborhoods in the city. Throughout the conference experience, delegates learned about the importance of diplomacy and Iceland’s impact on global relations. NMUN proved to be a challenging yet extremely rewarding experience.
