Advising & Mentoring – Summer To Do List

As the end of Spring 2025 approaches, please encourage your student to connect with their Drake advisors and mentors. Some Drake faculty and staff are not on contract over the summer and may not be available via email, for meetings (virtual or in-person), or on the phone for longer periods of time, so it's important for students to discuss when, where, and how to stay connected over the summer.

Summer offers a great opportunity for your student to track academic progress and identify goals for the next year. Here's a short summer to do list to support your students' continued academic success:

  • Finalize Summer 2025 and Fall 2025 course registration by Friday, May 16.
  • Review final grades in Self-Service on Wednesday, May 21 after 10am.
  • Confirm major, minor, concentration, and additional program declarations in Self Service --> Student Records Card --> Student Profile. Primary and secondary programs are listed under the Curriculum, Hours, & GPA section.
  • Review their degree evaluation (or "degree audit") to track progress towards degree completion. If students are unfamiliar with how to generate and review their audit, this Knowledge Base articleprovides instructions.
  • Update their Graduation Plan, using their degree checklist and four year guide(s) for their major(s).
  • Reflect on Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 – What went well? What areas need improvement?
  • Draft academic and professional goals for Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 and share with your advising and mentoring faculty and staff

If your student has questions about any items on the summer to do list, they can contact their Advising Specialist, Faculty Mentor, or College/ School Dean's Office via their Starfish Success Network for assistance.
