Welcome Weekend: August 25 - 27

Welcome Week activities kick off on Thursday, August 25 and continue through Saturday, August 27. There will be a mixture of structured activities and optional opportunities for recreation, socialization, and information sessions. We encourage new students to take advantage of all that Welcome Week has to offer. 
  
Look for information from your Peer Mentor/Academic Consultant (PMAC) to be posted on your residence hall door with information about your meet up location for Thursday, August 25. During your meeting, your PMAC will help you personalize your schedule for the week.

Thursday, August 25

  • Meet up with your First Year Seminar class and PMAC!
  • Welcome to the Drake Community! - welcome session featuring student speakers, talent and residents from the Drake Neightborhood to welcome students to campus. 
  • First Year Student College/School meetings - meet up with your college/school to expand on what you learned during summer orientation and get everything you need to prepare for the fall semester. 
  • You.Me.We. - an interactive program on racism, sexism, and LGBTQ issues especially for college students.
  • Traditions Scavenger Hunt - hosted by the Student Alumni Assocation, this is an opportunity to explore campus and get the scoop on traditions you will experience during your time at Drake. 

Friday, August 26

  • The C-Word: Consent - an interactive and educational program on a wide range of topics that include effective boundary setting, online behavior, bystander intervention, and survivor resources.
  • Prevention Ambassadors - important discussion on harassment, sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, bullying, microaggressions and other forms of gender violence.
  • FYS Professor meet up - an opportunity to meet with your First Year Seminar professor!

Saturday, August 27

  • Bulldog Basics - choose from two of our four our breakout sessions:
  • Choose Your Own Adventure
    • Choose from a wide variety of activites Saturday afternoon including kickball, sand volleyball, a trip to downtown on the DART bus, bicyle ride to local ice cream shop, learn more about study abroad, spike ball and more! 
  • Welcome to the Team - our closing event in the Drake stadium with the entire incoming class of 2026! Hosted by Drake Athletics.
