Our Faculty

College of Arts and Sciences faculty are dedicated scholars and teachers, committed to building creative and effective learning experiences for students.

Our 140 full-time faculty members, 93 percent of whom hold the highest degrees in their field, bring extraordinary expertise to campus and create:

  • A dynamic intellectual community; Drake's cohesive campus brings together faculty, staff, and students in the open discussion of ideas and the quest for knowledge and understanding. Faculty in all Arts and Sciences disciplines engage students in the practice of thinking for themselves, deciphering the world around them, respecting all individuals, and developing a lifelong sense of curiosity.

  • Unique learning experiences; An Arts & Sciences student-faculty ratio of 8:1 allows students to participate in meaningful small-group discussions, experiential learning opportunities, internships, service-learning initiatives, and mentoring with professors who are leaders in their fields. The College's faculty are committed to multi- and inter-disciplinary teaching and learning, and dedicated to the success of our students, here at Drake and beyond.

  • Connections to the world; Arts & Sciences faculty members are active professionals in their fields, each semester publishing articles, presenting scholarly work at disciplinary conferences, writing plays, performing fieldwork, giving recitals, conducting lab research, building theatre sets, and exhibiting artwork to stay on the cusp of the most current developments in their disciplines. Arts and Sciences faculty also share their worldwide connections with students through travel courses to Ecuador, Egypt, England, India, Mexico, Rwanda, South Africa, Uganda, and Washington, D.C.

Five Drake piano students will showcase their talents on a world-renowned concert grand piano during a free concert at Drake University next month. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. Monday, December 1, in Sheslow Auditorium, 2507 University Ave.
