Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee

If your research involves animals in any way, you’ll need to follow the processes and procedures established by the Drake University Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). This committee, which provides oversight and approval of animal related research ensures the University’s commitment to the humane care and use of animals in activities related to research and teaching conducted on campus or by individuals associated with Drake.

The IACUC is guided by federal regulations and ethical principles. All research involving vertebrate animals that is conducted or authorized under the jurisdiction of Drake University is subject to review by the IACUC.

Before pursuing any project involving the use of animals for research or in teaching labs, read the Drake University Investigators’ Manual for the Care and Use of Animals in Research. This manual includes information on the documentation process, timelines, and answers to frequently asked questions. And of course, you can always contact the Office of Institutional Research for more information.
