Athletic Training Spotlight

Meet Delaney Taylor, a second-year (A2) student from Waukee, Iowa, who is in the Master of Athletic Training (MAT) program.

Delaney will graduate from the Master of Athletic Training (MAT) program in 2024. As part of her experiential education requirements, Delaney is completing a fall 2023 immersive experience with Drake Football. Read more about this immersive experience below.

Why did you choose your immersive site - Drake Football?

I chose Drake football because I worked with high school football last year and really enjoyed it. I thought it would be the most beneficial to my education with the variety of injuries/conditions that may arise. I was also familiar with my preceptors beforehand and thought we would be a good match.

What is your favorite part/experience so far?

My favorite part of my immersive has been the autonomy that I have with evaluations, rehab plans, and treatments. My preceptors give me a lot of freedom but are also there to answer questions and correct me. My favorite experience so far was traveling with the team to play at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

How has this experience helped you in future career planning?

I know now that I want to work for a college/university after graduation. I have also been exposed to a lot of common injuries that I will need to know how to treat on my own one day.
