Athletic Training Spotlight

Meet Sara Wilson, a second-year (A2) student from Urbandale, Iowa, who is in the Master of Athletic Training (MAT) program and a student-athlete for Drake University Rowing.

Sara will graduate from the Master of Athletic Training (MAT) program in 2024. As part of her experiential education requirements, Sara is completing a fall 2023 immersive experience with Drake Volleyball. Read more about this immersive experience below.

Why did you choose your immersive site - Drake Volleyball?

I picked my immersive with Drake Volleyball because I wanted to get more work with the shoulder. The shoulder is something that I am not comfortable with so I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and work to become more proficient in that area of the body. I also love watching volleyball and Tara is an amazing teacher.

What is your favorite part/experience so far?

My favorite part so far has been working with all the players. I like seeing all of the girls' hard work in practice and in the training room pay off during games. They are also so appreciative and the sweetest group!

How has this experience helped you in future career planning?

This experience has helped with my future career planning because it has made me realize that the college setting is where I want to practice. I like working with this age group as they are truly dedicated to their sport and want to make themselves better, and that is something I want to help with.
