Internships are an important component of professional development for business students. Many students complete at least two internships before graduation. The goal of an internship is for students to obtain real-world experience, applying knowledge and skills learned in the classroom.
The College of Business and Public Administration hosts Business and Technology as well as Actuarial Science fall career fairs for all business students. The college hosts other networking and mock interview events throughout the year. These events give students the chance to personally connect and network with company representatives. Handshake, Drake’s online job posting system allows students to search and apply for positions. Many companies also come to campus for on-campus interviews. The Assistant Director of Professional and Career Development Services is available year-round to assist students and is housed in the Career and Professional Development Center in the business school building, Aliber Hall.
Examples of companies that recruit and hire Drake students are Allstate, Amazon, Athene, Berkshire Hathaway, Dotdash Meredith, EMC Insurance Companies, FDIC, John Deere, JPMorgan, Nationwide, Principal Financial Group, Wellmark, Wells Fargo, and Willis Towers Watson.
