Drake University has received several recognitions for proven success in community engagement and service-learning.

Carnegie Foundation Community Engagement Classification

The Carnegie Foundation's Classification for Community Engagement is an elective classification that determines whehter an institution qualifies for recognition as a community engaged institution. Only 361 colleges and universities hold the classification nation-wide. The Community Engagement Classification takes place on a five-year cycle and Drake University received classification in 2015. The President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, annually highlights the role colleges and universities play in solving community problems and placing more students on a lifelong path of civic engagement by recognizing institutions that achieve meaningful, measureable outcomes in the communities they serve. Boys Hope Girls Hope Scholar Recognition 2009

Boys Hope Girls Hope believes in children. They provide children with arms-around care, safe homes and environments, a first-class education, opportunities to learn more about themselves and the world, and academic, financial, and spiritual support through college, Boys Hope Girls Hope empowers children to realize the potential that is within them. The 2005 NAACP Des Moines Branch President's Award for Outstanding Community Service by a Community Organization

Founded in 1909, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization . Its half-million adult and youth members throughout the United States and the world are the premier advocates for civil rights in their communities and monitor equal opportunity in the public and private sectors. The Des Moines Branch NAACP was founded in 1915. Drake University was honored to receive an award from this association

Social Justice in Action Award

Upper Midwest Region Association of College and University Housing Officers recognizes Drake University Summer of Service Learning and Social Justice Program as a recipient of the Social Justice in Action Award. This award presented by Beth Miller and Gail Sims-Aubert at the 2012 UMR-ACUHO Conference.
