Volunteer Opportunities

Drake receives dozens of requests every semester. The following is a sample of the current opportunities we have received. For a broader list of opportunities in the metro, visit the United Way of Central Iowa Volunteer Hub.

• Empower youth through education, soccer, and performing arts - Volunteer with Gensis, Inc. and 4H to allow all young people have an equal chance at a successful life. Will work around your schedule. Email Addison at genesisdesmoines@gmail.com. 
• Volunteer with Jester Park Nature Center - volunteer at the information desk, with outdoor recreation and wellness, and merchandise sales. Contact melissa.schmeling@polkcountryiowa.gov. 
• #TutorHeroes Homework Coaching/Mentoring for students in the Des Moines area through Evelyn K Davis - assist with homework difficulty ranging from 7th-12th grade school work. Opportunities available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 5-7pm. Contact Jason at jcvang1@dmacc.edu. 
• Read to elementary school students over your lunch hour on Fridays at King Elementary School, within walking distance of Drake! Or, see what other schools, days and times are available.

Drake University cannot guarantee the availability of volunteers for your activity. We will make every effort to promote your activity to students, faculty and staff. Employee participation is subject to a manager's approval and personal availability. Drake University participation in community events is dependent on availability of faculty, staff, and students and the University's Academic Calendar.
