2013 Grant Writing Workshop

The Drake University Center for Professional Studies is pleased to offer a three day program that brings a wide array of competencies supporting the art of grant writing. The 21 contact-hour program provides a focused and interactive learning experience.

The program will bring focus to:

Developing a sustainable grants strategy to be a creative and successful grant seeker
Finding and evaluating grant making organizations who want to make an “investment” in your mission
Good project design—how the most successful grant proposals are designed to deliver measurable results that are sustainable
Telling the story through effective mission, goals, and objectives
The role of the budget—how effective budgeting adds value and creditability
Putting it all together and making a strong case—interpreting the Request for Proposal (RFP), writing persuasive narrative, organizing and formatting the application, engaging stakeholder support, etc.

Who should join this program?

The person who is new to grant writing, but who is now charged with grant seeking and writing grants within the organization
The person who wants to develop grant writing skills and expand professional and personal opportunities
The person who currently is working with grants and seeks to enhance skills

Who will be facilitating the sessions?

Lance Noe, Director of the Drake University Center for Professional Studies, will facilitate the program.Lance teaches grant writing for the Drake University Master of Public Administration program at the Des Moines, Ames, and Quad Cities locations.He also serves as the instructor for the grant writing curriculum taught as part of the nationally accredited Certified Public Management program.Lance has spoken at numerous regional conferences and professional meetings bringing a message of how to best develop a sustainable grant seeking and grant writing organization.Since 2006, he has worked as a consultant to several agencies of state and local government leading them through a comprehensive process of developing a sustainable grants strategy.Recently he served as the grant writer for the State of Iowa’s application for the Teacher Quality Partnership Grants Program—a major federal grant which was awarded in 2010 following a highly competitive review process.

The three-day, 21-contact hour program meets on January 25th, February 1st, and 8th. Sessions will begin at 8:30am and conclude at 4:30pm.
