Emergency Contact Information

Have a Plan!

You have learned many things about protecting your health and safety, but would you know what to do in the event of an emergency or accident? Be prepared ahead of time!

If an injury or chemical exposure occurs, notify your supervisor or PI immediately. You may need to call 911, provide first aid or help in some other way. Know the location of your Emergency Eyewashes, Showers and First Aid Kits.

No matter where or how the injury or exposure is treated, each incident must be reported. Employees must fill out a First Report of Injury form through Drake HR. Students injured during classes, labs or at university sponsored events must notify University Risk Management. Submitting these forms in a timely manner will ensure that the incidents are documented and that future claims and benefits are available to those injured or exposed.

Prepare an Emergency Action Plan

Principal investigators or laboratory supervisors must develop an emergency action plan for their labs and all employees must be trained on the location and contents of the plan. The emergency action plan should provide contact information as well as the specific steps to be taken in an emergency. To simplify the process, EH&S has created an emergency action plan template, which can be found on the EH&S website. Information specific to your laboratory will need to be added to the template and the plan should be posted near the exit of the laboratory for easy retrieval during an incident. Remember to update the contact information, as needed.

                                                                                          Emergency Maps

Emergency maps should be present in the corridors of all campus buildings. Familiarize yourself with evacuation routes, severe weather shelter locations, and emergency equipment locations before an emergency arises.

Evacuation routes are marked with red arrows. Severe weather shelters are highlighted yellow.
