Symplicity is a secure web-based system that allows students to take control of their professional development and job search. It is free to all Drake students and alums and is used by the Career Development Office for recruiting, career counseling, and professional development workshops and events. The Legal Clinic will also use Symplicity for academic field placements. Specifically, students can use Symplicity for the following:
You can also use the mobile app by downloading Symplicity Jobs and Careers through Apple or Google.
If you have any Symplicity questions, please contact CDO or stop by in 181 Opperman (across from the library).
You will access Symplicity through your Drake email and password – just bookmark this page: https://law-drake-csm.symplicity.com/sso/students for future use.
In order to use Symplicity, you must first set up your personal and academic account pages.
While navigating Symplicity, use the “back” links/buttons provided within the system, these are located near the top or bottom of pages. You can also use the navigation bar to move around the system. Do not use your Internet browser’s back button/arrow to return to a previous page as it may bump you out of the system.
Your Drake e-mail address will always be the default. If you change the email address, make sure that this is one you use and check. Even if you do not regularly use your Drake email address, make sure you have it forwarded to an account you do check frequently, as emails sent to your Drake email may be your only notice for last minute job postings or employer events.
You must complete your personal and academic account pages before you can use other Symplicity tools such as the Jobs Postings – you will find these under “My Account” at the bottom left side of your homepage. Items marked * are required fields. The “Profile” tab on the left side of your homepage is different – this is your outward facing profile that you can create but is not required.
Your academic and personal information is not shared with other students or employers. Information such as preferred name and title may be shared with faculty and staff for internal use only, but not publicly. If you are having trouble logging onto the site, or if you have any questions, please contact CDO.
All 1Ls will meet with a career counselor, although you are not assigned a particular counselor – you can meet with both or either that you choose.
We strongly encourage 2L and 3L students to continue to meet with CDO throughout your job search. The more we know about your interests and experience the more we can help you network, plan, and stay current on job opportunities,
To schedule an appointment, just click “Counseling Appointment” on the left side of your homepage. Symplicity will not allow you to schedule a same-day appointment - just e-mail or stop in to ask if appointments are available.
The “Jobs” tab is on the left side of your homepage. You can search by keywords and/or location, save job postings, and also create Job Alerts. You should check this page often as it is update daily.
You will also be able to securely upload and store application materials such as your resume, cover letters, and unofficial transcript and use them to apply for jobs on Symplicity. If in doubt due to your grades, rank, or experience – apply! Do not self-select yourself out of a job by not applying. CDO counselors are happy to discuss particular concerns if you would like to schedule an appointment.
Always pay attention to the application deadline and do not put off applying. Employers operate on their own timeline even if Symplicity lists a deadline. Some employers may review applications as they arrive and fill the position before the deadline, so we encourage applicants to apply early.
Please know Symplicity jobs are posted by outside employers and housed on our site. Applicants should independently research employers and job opportunities listed in Symplicity since the CDO cannot guarantee the accuracy of the employers’ job postings. Similarly, approving a job posting does not represent an endorsement of the employer, the position, or the views or values held by that employer.
Click on the “Documents” tab on the left side of your homepage and upload documents in PDF format. Keep your documents organized by labeling them clearly, particularly to make sure you are sending the most updated resume and the correct employer cover letter.
Click on “Events” on your homepage to rsvp to workshops, employer panels, or other events.
Students and alumni have access to numerous resources in the Symplicity Resource Library, including resume and cover letter guides, online job resources (including passwords), interview preparation materials as well as recordings of panels and programs of interest. To access the materials, log in to Symplicity and click Resources.
