Bachelor of Music Education

Program Details

The music education curriculum is designed specifically for musicians who wish to be certified to teach music at the elementary (K-8) or secondary (5-12) level. The program requirements prepare students to teach ensemble/general classroom music teaching and qualifies students for a State of Iowa Teaching Certificate.  

Drake offers students opportunities for extensive classroom observation, recorded teaching lessons, and a full semester of student teaching.  Placement rates for graduates of the program have been nearly 100 percent for the last 10 years.

Program Options

The Music Endorsement is available in combination with the following degree programs.

Audition Requirement

Application materials, including transcripts, will be further reviewed by the Music Department. All applicants are required to demonstrate music competency in an audition with faculty, to be arranged after complete submission of application
