Kinesiology

Customize your experience. Pursue and publish research in an area that fascinates you while still an undergraduate.

Set your future in motion

Restoring strength and flexibility to a bed-bound patient. Shaving seconds off a triathlete’ s transitions. Engaging seniors in activities that improve wellbeing and quality of life. There’s a secret behind these successes, and it’s kinesiology—the science of human movement.

When you earn a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at Drake, you’ll be well versed in human anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics, with the hands-on experience and research background that will get you noticed by employers and graduate schools.

Run with a powerful pack

You’ll also experience the benefits that all Drake Bulldogs enjoy—small class size; professors at the top of their field who teach, mentor, and collaborate with you on projects and research; and a rigorous (and fascinating!) liberal arts curriculum.

You'll do all of this in state-of-the-art spaces: Kinesiology labs, classrooms, and additional spaces within Drake’s emerging STEM@DRAKE complex, designed to facilitate collaboration and interdisciplinary exploration.

Join a growing discipline

Kinesiologists work with people in a variety of contexts—from helping athletes safely push performance boundaries to guiding people with injuries through rehabilitation to helping the general public improve health or fitness. Their area of expertise is sought after by a variety of employers, with job growth that is outpacing the national average.

Practical experience and research

As a Kinesiology student at Drake, you’ll have exceptional opportunities to practice while you learn.

  • Collaborate on original research. Through classroom labs and independent research or thesis projects, undergraduates work alongside professors to conduct original research, investigating questions about kinesiology that no one has delved into before.
  • Publish and present novel findings. Student research is often accepted for publication in expert-reviewed journals, such as Ergonomics and International Journal of Exercise Science. Students also have opportunities to present research to experts in the field.
  • Engage with the community. Drake Kinesiology students contribute to local Drake-sponsored STEM outreach events.

As a Kinesiology major at Drake, you’ll gain professional- and graduate-level experiences before you even receive your diploma.
