Learn Together to Work Together

Des Moines Area IPE Collaborative

“If healthcare providers are expected to work together and share expertise in a team environment, it makes sense that their education and training should prepare them for this type of working arrangement.” - (Romanow, 2002)

In an effort to prepare student healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective collaboration in practice, a partnership between Des Moines University, Drake University, Grand View University, Des Moines Area Community College and Mercy College of Health Sciences was formed as the Des Moines Area IPE Collaborative (DMAIPEC) in December of 2014.  The Interprofessional Education Collaborative’s nationally recognized four core competencies (values and ethics, roles and responsibilities, interprofessional communication, and teams and teamwork) were adopted as the foundation for developing and assessing all IPE activities within DMAIPEC.

Faculty members from Drake University's Pharmacy, Occupational Therapy, and Athletic Training Departments serve as committee members on DMAIPEC. As part of DMAIPEC’s menu of IPE offerings, Drake University hosts and facilitates the Poverty Simulation & Opioid Crisis.
