Drake Research Grants

These grants are intended to support research and creative activity that is not already funded by other sources, to jumpstart proposals for external grant seeking, and to provide supplemental funds to ongoing projects, as necessary.

Drake Research Grants (DRG) offer up to $3,000 per project to underwrite the direct cost of faculty conducting research or creative activity. Drake Research Grants may be used to pay for such expenses as:

  • Travel (to visit archives, conduct interviews, and observations, to create artworks or performance pieces, etc.)
  • Materials (including laboratory resources, equipment, data sets, software, etc.)
  • Services (including research participants, indexing, recording and production, transcription)
  • Student research assistants

Eligibility
Full-time faculty on continuing appointment

Timeline:
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, as long as funds are available.

An interdisciplinary panel of your peers, in consultation with the Deputy Provost, will make a determination of funding within 30-45 days of submission.

Applications:
Please email a 5-10 page document that includes:

  • A narrative of the work to be accomplished, a timeline for its completion, the intended outcomes (ie: type of publication, performance, or presentation) and a budget.
  • An abbreviated cv that highlights relevant research and  creative work, teaching and service.

Research involving human subjects must be reviewed by our Institutional Review Board (link: https://www.drake.edu/irb/) prior to funds being released.

Faculty are not required to share their plans for enrichment and development with their department chair or Dean; however, we expect that faculty will exhaust funding available to them through departmental, college/school, and other sources, before applying for a Drake Research Grant.

Please reach out with questions and submit your application to:
