Your journey starts here. We’re with you every step of the way.
At Drake, we believe a strong start leads to long-term success. That’s why our New Student Programs are designed to help you and your family transition smoothly into college life. Whether you’re a first-year student right out of high school, a transfer student, a Bright College student, the first in your family to attend college, or a combination, we offer tailored programs that build community, provide resources, and prepare you for your academic journey ahead.
From your first campus experience to your first semester in the classroom, our team is here to help guide you.
What We Offer
New Student Orientation
Whether you’re coming from high school, transferring in, or beginning at Bright College, Orientation is your official introduction to life as a Bulldog. You’ll meet advisors, explore your academic path, and get answers to key questions about campus life, financial aid, and more.
Before classes begin, Welcome Weekend helps you settle in, build relationships, and feel part of the Drake community. You’ll participate in events, connect with your First Year Seminar cohort, and meet your Peer Mentor/Academic Consultant (PMAC), who will support you all semester.
As a first-generation student, you bring unique strength and perspective to campus. Drake is proud to support our first-generation students with mentorship, peer support, dedicated events, and access to resources throughout your college experience to ensure your success at Drake and beyond.
Need help with tutoring, wellness, housing, safety, or anything else while at Drake? Our Resources and Services page connects you with everything from academic coaching and Disability Services to meal plans and parking permits.
We know that families play a vital role in student success. Our Parents & Families page offers resources for staying informed and connected, including Family Weekend information, the Bulldog Bulleting and OnCampus, the Parent & Family Advisory Council, and more.
