Dr. Michael Andreski, an associate professor of pharmacy practice in Drake University’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (CPHS), received the Iowa Pharmacy Association’s (IPA) Legislative Champion Award. He was honored with this award during the IPA Pharmacy Day on the Hill on January 24, 2024.

Through the Legislative Champion Award, the Iowa Pharmacy Association recognizes a member each year who has made a unique and significant contribution to IPA’s advocacy efforts.

Andreski has been a leader for pharmacists, academics, and public officials through his advocacy efforts and data analysis. During the 2023 Iowa Legislative Session, Andreski educated legislators on the Health and Human Services Committees about IPA’s Pharmacy Practice Act modernization legislation (HF 555). Andreski’s efforts contributed to an 86-10 passage of the bill through the House of Representatives and unanimous passage through the Senate Health and Human Services Committee. Most recently, Andreski conducted the Pharmacy Access in Iowa study in collaboration with the Health Professions Tracking Center at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. This data continues to spotlight ongoing trends in pharmacy access and the need for PBM reform.

A dedicated member of Drake’s community for fourteen years, Andreski has taught pharmacy management, law, ethics, and entrepreneurship.  Andreski studied pharmacy at the University of Iowa and practiced hospital pharmacy for 20 years. During that time, he completed a Master of Business Administration, which then led him to the University of lowa to obtain a PhD in Pharmacy, studying multi-disciplinary teams in health care.  As part of his research and professional advocacy, he completed a Master in Jurisprudence at the Drake University Law School. “Mike Andreski’s dedication to advancing pharmacy practice in Iowa is exemplary,” said Chuck Phillips, interim dean and professor. “His receipt of the Legislative Champion Award from the Iowa Pharmacy Association is a testament to his unwavering commitment to the pursuit of better access to patient care.”
