Health Sciences Registration Information

It is your responsibility to track your degree progress and follow the registration policies and procedures. Prior to registration review your curriculum guide and degree audit to ensure you are registering for the appropriate classes.

Registration Reminders

  • **For students who began in Fall 2018, HSCI 020, 021, 025, 055, 105, & 106 must be completed by the end of your junior year in order to be eligible for your senior year Health Sciences requirements. For students who began in Fall 2017 and prior, you must complete HSCI 020, 025, 055, & 105 prior to your senior experience.
  • Registration for Labs: Students may only register for one lab section. If a student registers for more than one lab section or registers for one lab section and waitlists in another, the student will be removed from BOTH lab sections.
  • HSCI 060 - Statistics in Health Sciences is the new Statistics requirement of the curriculum and will also fulfill your CRIT AOI. STAT 060 (Statistics for the Life Sciences) can be substituted for this requirement.
  • HSCI 125/125L: Physiology and lab is a required course for all students in the Clinical and Applied Sciences and Health Services Management tracks.
  • HSCI 172: Evaluating Research Literature is required for Fall semester of the junior year. Students should plan to complete HSCI 060 or an appropriate substitute in their second year.
  • Senior Internship  Reminder: When planning your spring schedule, you should leave blocks of time for your internship hours. You will be spending 8 hours per week at your internship site. Please contact Dr. Alisa Drapeaux if you have questions regarding your internship experience.
  • Planning to repeat a course, but not the lab? Students planning to repeat a lecture section ONLY of CHEM 001, 002, 097, 108 and BIO 012 and/or BIO 013, may register for the lecture section without the lab via MyDUSIS.  For assistance with any other repeat course registration-related issues, please contact Jill Batten at jill.batten@drake.edu for assistance and include your Drake ID along with your request.
  • To search for Health Sciences Professional Electives Electives, log in to MyDUSIS, click on the Student Services and Financial Aid link --> Registration link --> Look Up Classes to Add. From the subject menu, select Health Sciences, Pharmacy, Education and Spanish (to select these, click on one, scroll to the next, press Control/command, and click on the next). Approved electives (if course is not required as part of your health science track) are HSCI 100-199, PHAR 100-199, EDUC 172, and SPAN 165. Biomedical, business and psychology professional electives are listed on the curriculum guides for each track.
  • Health Sciences and Law 3+3 Program.  Earn your B.S. in Health Sciences and a J.D. in 6 years instead of 7 by completing the first year of Law School during the Senior Year of the Health Sciences program.  This option is available for students in the Clinical & Applied Sciences Track and the Health Services Management Track.  For more information visit: 3+3 Clinical & Applied/Law Curriculum Guide or 3+3 Health Services Management/Law Curriculum Guide
  • Health Sciences and Mercy 3+1 Medical Lab Sciences
    This option is available for students in the Clinical & Applied Sciences Track.  For more information visit: 3+1 Clinical & Applied/MLS Guide.
  • Health Sciences and Mercy College of Health Sciences 3+1 Bachelor's in Nursing (BSN) This option is available for students in the Clinical & Applied Sciences Track.  For more information visit: 3+1 HS-C/BSN MCHS Guide.

Clinical & Applied Sciences

To prepare for registration, please generate a new degree audit in MyDUSIS to review the following items:

  • What AOI’s do you have left to complete? You are responsible for completing the following AOI’s: Artistic Experience, Engaged Citizen, 2 Historical Foundations, and Written Communication.
  • What Clinical and Applied Sciences Requirements do you have left to complete? Have you completed the necessary prerequisite coursework for your required classes?
  • How many Professional Elective Credits do you have left to complete? (22 credits required for students entering in Fall 2018; more may be required for students entering in Fall 2015, Fall 2016 and Fall 2017)
    • Biomedical Sciences Electives (min 3 credits)
    • Health Sciences Electives (min 6 credits)
    • Professional Electives (min 13 credits) Any combination of Biomedical, Health Sciences, Psychology or Business electives
  • How many General Elective Credits do you have left to complete? (27 credits required – this includes the AOI’s above)

Health Services Management

To prepare for registration, please generate a new degree audit in MyDUSIS to review the following items:

  • What AOI’s do you have left to complete? You are responsible for completing the following AOI’s: Artistic Experience, Engaged Citizen, 2 Historical Foundations, and Written Communication.
  • What Health Services Management Requirements do you have left to complete? Have you completed the necessary prerequisite coursework for your required classes?
  • How many Professional Elective Credits do you have left to complete? (12 credits required for students entering in Fall 2018; more may be required for students entering in Fall 2015, Fall 2016 and Fall 2017)
    • Biomedical Sciences Electives (no min)
    • Health Sciences Electives (min 3 credits)
    • Business Elective (min 3 credits)
    • Psychology Elective (no min)
    • Professional Electives (no min) Additional Biomedical, Health Sciences, Psychology or Business electives
  • How many General Elective Credits do you have left to complete? (24 credits required – this includes the AOI’s above)
