Honors Program Courses

The Drake University Honors Program is open to students from all academic departments and undergraduate programs.

The Honors program offers a variety of courses each semester. Most of these courses are cross listed with departments and programs across the university, and must be approved by the Honors Advisory Board.  Approved Honors courses must be interdisciplinary, discussion-based, and reading and writing intensive. Occasionally "Honors-only" courses are offered that are open only to Honors students. Honors courses are enrollment capped at 20 students in order to facilitate discussion-based pedagogy, and more importantly, to promote student engagement and learning.

Below is information about Honors course offerings and categories. Please refer to the course catalog listings for semester/term specific course information. Information in the Registration system supersedes information you will find here.

Honors Program interdisciplinary cross listed courses are offered with the following suggested class enrollment provisions in mind:

Numbering Recommended Audience
001-049 first-year students 
050-099 first-year students, sophomores, juniors and seniors
101-149 sophomores, junior and seniors (first-year students when seats are available)
150-199 juniors and seniors (sophomores by permission of instructor)

Please see the individual course information for specific enrollment restrictions in the course catalog. To register for an Honors cross listed  course, students should search for the course attribute "Honors Track Elective" in the Registration or Course Schedules system

Honors students may register for (almost) any HONR course, but enrollments may be restricted by student year, major, and/or course instructor approval.
