School of Actuarial Science & Risk Management (SoASRM) Scholarships

The School of Actuarial Science offers scholarship opportunities ranging from $1,000-$3,500 to incoming first-year students who have declared a major in actuarial science, possess evidence of exceptional academic performance and demonstrate financial need. The deadline to apply is January 25, 2024.

  • $3,500 Roger K. Brooks Actuarial Science Scholarship: The scholarship is renewable for the sophomore year provided the student has at least a 3.0 GPA and continues to major in actuarial science or in one of the joint programs that include actuarial science. Roger Brooks is a distinguished alumnus from Drake’s actuarial program. In honor of his 60th birthday in 1997, friends of Roger Brooks, F.S.A., M.A.A.A., retired Chairman of AmerUs Life in Des Moines, donated funds to endow this scholarship.
  • $1,000 Dr. Newt Bowers Endowed Scholarship: The scholarship is renewable for up to four years as long as the student meets the criteria set forth by the Office of Student Financial Planning for receiving financial aid, is in good academic standing with the University, maintains a declared major in actuarial science, and as long as funds are available. This scholarship was created in honor of Newt Bowers, Emeritus Professor of Actuarial Science at Drake University. Newt taught at Drake from 1969-1996 and was an author, mentor, and beloved teacher.

Application Instructions 

The deadline to apply for the School of Actuarial Science & Risk Management Scholarships is January 25, 2024. To apply for these and other Zimpleman College of Business scholarships, you must:

  • Complete an application for admission to Drake; scholarship candidates must be admitted to Drake University as an actuarial science major by January 25, 2024 to be considered for this award.
  • Complete the unified Zimpleman College of Business Scholarship Application, which includes a personal essay, by January 25, 2024. (Indicate your interest in Actuarial Science on this application to be considered for actuarial science scholarship opportunities.)
  • Submit the FAFSA or International Student Financial Information Form (ISFIF) by January 25, 2024.

Law 3 + 3

Undergraduate awards available for 3 years or until first year of Law Program (L1).

Doctor of Pharmacy

Undergraduate awards available for 4 years or through the 2nd year of the Pharmacy Program (P2).

Occupational Therapy Doctorate 3+3

Undergraduate awards available for 3 years or until the first year of the OTD program (O1). There is a one-time, $5,000 scholarship for O1.

Masters in Athletic Training 

Undergraduate awards available for 3 years or until the first year of the Athletic Training Program (AT1). There is a one-time, $5,000 scholarship for AT1.
