Student Employment

Throughout the year, Drake offers many opportunities for students to work in various areas of campus recreation.

Open Recreation

  • Monitors ensure the safety of our participants through enforcing policies, responding to emergencies, and keeping the facilities clean. They are also respnsible for providing good customer service and ensuring a quality experience for users. Areas that require an Open Rec Monitor are Fitness Room, Bell Center Front Desk, Equipment Room, Tennis Center, and Underground Fitness. Open Rec employment offers very flexible schedules, oppurtunities to advance into management positions, and a fun work environmen! Intramural Official & Scorekeeper:

  • The main function of this position is to officiate and score keep intramural contests. Intramural events that require officials are flag football, volleyball, soccer, basketball, floor hockey, soccer, and softball. No prior officiating experience is required. Trainings are held before the start of each sport to go over rules and prepare you to officiate games. Lifeguards

  • The primary responsibility for the Bell Center Pool Lifeguards is to prevent accidents both in the water and on the pool deck. Providing rescue and emergency care is the secondary responsibility. American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification is required. For more information, contact Ryan Parriott at ryan.parriott@drake.edu.

Group Exercise

  • Looking to workout, encourage and guide others to reach their exercise potential?  GroupX instructors have the opportunity to teach a variety of formats, including HIIT, Cardio Kickboxing, Yoga, Pilates, Hip-Hop, and more! We offer flexibility in choosing which format you would like to teach and how often you'd like to teach. Prior experience is not required. Each instructor undergoes a thorough training program before teaching independently. If you are interested in teaching classes at the Bell Center, email wellness@drake.edu for more information!
