Saturday, August 25

  • Optional Q&A with directors at 9:30 a.m. – anyone just finding out about auditions who wants to auditions should attend this meeting as well as all first year students
  • Auditions start at 10:00 a.m.

Auditions are timed

Pick material that is right for the shows and characters you are interested in.
Do not perform a song or monologue from the shows.

To audition for the Drake Department of Theatre Arts 2018-2019 Productions, please email Dani Peters for an audition time slot before 12:00 p.m. on Friday August 17 at danielle.peters@drake.edu . Attach to your email your completed Theatre Audition sheet 1819 as well as a copy of your headshot and resume. READ the instructions on the AUDITION FORM carefully and follow the directions.  If you are NOT a Theatre Major and wish to audition, just attend the 9:30 a.m. meeting on Saturday August 25 and we can sign you up for a time then.

9:30am Q&A with the directors - this is optional for anyone who would like more information about the shows and/or the audition process
10:00am - Auditions will begin.  These will be timed.  Time begins with the first word or your first piece.

All BFA Musical Theatre majors / minors and ANYONE wanting to audition for the musical must prepare:

1.) Two contrasting monologues (1 classical serious and 1 contemporary comedic -OR- 1 classical comedic and 1 contemporary serious)
2.) One song (16 bars) in the style of NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT

Total audition time not to exceed 3 minutes

All BFA Acting, Directing and Theatre Education majors and ANYONE wanting to audition for the plays must prepare:

1.) Two contrasting monologues (1 classical serious and 1 contemporary comedic -OR- 1 classical comedic and 1 contemporary serious)

Total audition time not to exceed 2 minutes

NOTE: All BFA performance majors must prepare a complete audition package for their respective degree regardless of any schedule/course conflicts you may have.  No exceptions.  Just be sure to note on the any conflicts that will make you ineligible to be cast in a particular production. 

**   All BFA performance majors are required to attend, even if they are ineligible for casting in the show.  If your schedule precludes you from attending the audition, you must contact the director, Emily Brown, and make other arrangements.  For this audition, Emily asks that students prepare a one-minute monologue in the style of the show.  


Callbacks will be held as follows:

Saturday 25 August
4:00 - 7:00pm - Theatre Durang-ed
7:00 - 10:00pm - Sunday on the Rocks

Sunday 26 August
11:00am - 2:00pm - As You Like It
2:00pm - 5:00pm - Time Stands Still
6:00pm - 10:00pm - Nice Work If You Can Get It 

(This will include a dance call, please bring all forms of dance shoe to this callback)

Cast lists will be posted on MONDAY, August 27 and Theatre Durang-ed will start rehearsal that night. 

If you have any questions about the audition process, contact any faculty director.  If you have questions about a particular production, contact the specific director listed above.    

 

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Everyone must make themselves available for rehearsal for Theatre Durang-ed that will start on the evening of August 27. That means if you have a job in the evenings, on or off campus, you cannot work in the evenings that week in case you are cast in Theatre Durang-ed.
  • If you are auditioning, regardless if you are a BFA Theatre Performance Major or not, you MUST accept any role you are cast in. If you are not willing to do this, then please do not audition.‌
