Mark S. Cady Day of Public Service

The Mark S. Cady Day of Public Service is dedicated to the late Iowa Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark Cady.

The Cady Day of Public Service will bring the state legal community together to honor and to celebrate the life and legacy of Justice Cady and his commitment to public service, access to justice, and civil rights.

The inaugural Cady Day of Public Service will be held on Friday, Oct. 23, 2020. Attorneys throughout the state are invited to participate in some form of public service or pro bono work on Oct. 23.

Are you looking for ideas on how to participate?

  • Consider marking Cady Day by volunteering for a pro bono case through a Volunteer Lawyers Project. Find out ways to become involved here.
  • Participate in the Iowa Legal Aid Racial Equity Project Expungement and Employment Barriers Clinic or register for the Drake Law School Refugee Clinic's Pro Bono Asylum training CLE workshop. Learn more about these and other opportunities here.
  • Plan a webinar on a legal topic for CLE credit for other Iowa attorneys.
  • Host a virtual food drive with the Food Bank of Iowa
  • Hold a voter registration event in your community. Visit Rock the Vote for a toolkit for planning a virtual or in person event!
  • Check out the current list of Projects for inspiration or view other Volunteer Opportunites. We will continue to add events and opportunities up until Oct. 23 so if you don't find something that interests you today, please visit this page again soon.

Whether you choose to plan a public event or simply spend time on a project for a pro bono client we would LOVE to hear about it! Register your project so we can recognize your participation in the inaugural Cady Day of Public Service.
