Professor Spencer is a Visiting Assistant Professor in both the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and the Department of Physics and Astronomy. She is an alumna of Drake University, having received her B.A. in Physics, B.S. in Mathematics, and B.S.E. in Secondary Education. She received her M.A. in Physics Education from Western Governors University.

Professor Spencer spent twelve years teaching mathematics and science in the Des Moines Public Schools before joining Drake University. She teaches introductory courses in physics and mathematics and is passionate about helping students recognize that everyone can learn and be successful in mathematics and physics.
