Biography

Dr. Meredith Luttrell is an Assistant Professor of Kinesiology within the Biology Department at Drake University. She joined the department in 2016. Dr. Luttrell completed her undergraduate work at Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, TN (exercise science). From there, she went on to complete her graduate work at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX (exercise physiology). Dr. Luttrell earned her PhD in exercise physiology in 2014. During this time, she also taught Exercise Physiology and Fitness for Living at Sam Houston State University. From there, she moved to the University of Oregon to work as a post-doctoral research fellow in the Department of Human Physiology.

Dr. Luttrell’s primary research interest focuses on cardiovascular responses and adaptations to exercise and exercise training. She is interested in how exercise or signals associated with exercise may be used therapeutically in older adults and individuals with cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome. Recently, her research has investigated the effects of age and exercise training on vascular function within skeletal muscle, and how aging influences skeletal muscle vascular function by studying Master’s athletes.
